Another famous recipe: The Johnny cake. This recipe is from my husbands grandmother. She was famous for her Johnny cakes. Ingredients:
1 cup jonnycake meal (cornmeal) |
1 tablespoon sugar, or to taste |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 cup boiling water |
3 to 4 tablespoons milk |
Directions:
1. Combine meal, sugar and salt in large mixing bowl. Add boiling water; mix well. Thin immediately with milk so mixture will drop easily from spoon. Additional milk may be needed. 2. Drop by tablespoons onto hot greased griddle (you may use corn oil or bacon drippings). Do not let griddle get dry; add more oil as needed. 3. Cook 5 to 6 minutes on each side, to desired brown. Enjoy! |
