From Mom's Spiral Recipe Notebook Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups milk |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
1/4 cup crisco |
1/4 cup water (luke warm) |
4 -5 cups flour |
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (.25 ounces, at room temperature) |
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes. 2. Scald milk. 3. Add sugar, salt, & Crisco. 4. Cool to lukewarm before adding yeast. 5. Add half the flour & beat until smooth. 6. Add remaining flour. 7. Let dough rest 10 minutes. 8. Knead on floured board until smooth. 9. Place in greased bowl. Cover & let rise in warm place until double in bulk. 10. Punch down & rub with melted Crisco. 11. Put in refrigerator until needed. 12. When ready to bake, remove from refrigerator, preheat oven to 425°. 13. Knead lightly, place in greased pans. 14. Bake 15-20 minutes. |
