Adding buttermilk and Greek yogurt to this ice cream enhances the flavor of the lime! A great summer dessert. I pair this with my Graham Cracker Ice Cream Cone Bowls; it kind of makes a deconstructed lime pie. Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
1/2 cup buttermilk |
1/2 cup plain yogurt (preferably greek) |
1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream |
1/3 cup fresh lime juice |
1/2 tablespoon grated lime rind |
1 dash salt |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) |
1 drop green food coloring (optional) |
Directions:
1. In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. 2. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors marry. 3. Pour mixture into the container of at least a 2-quart electric ice cream freezer. 4. Freeze according to the manufacturer's directions. 5. Place in freezer for a few hours to firm up. |
