My grandmother hardly ever made a cake from scratch, but I did find this recipe of hers.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 ounce red food coloring
4 1/2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. Cream oil, sugar, and eggs.
2. Add cocoa and food coloring.
3. Add sifted flour and salt mixture alternating with buttermilk.
4. Add vinegar.
5. Stir soda and vanilla into batter.
6. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
