I inherited this recipe from my aunt. It is so good. And a favorite at Christmas gatherings. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
2 1/2 cups plain flour |
2 eggs |
1 cup buttermilk |
2 tablespoons cocoa |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 tablespoon vinegar |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 ounces red food coloring |
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and beat. Make a paste of coloring and cocoa. Add this to cream mixture. Add salt, buttermilk, flour and vanilla. Mix soda and vinegar, then add to mixture. 2. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes. 3. Ice with any type of vanilla icing you prefer. |
