Red Cabbage With Apples

wonderful easy recipe that relies on the sweetness of the cabbage with no added sugar. I love it at Thanksgiving!
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
1 red cabbage, roughly chopped (3 to 4 pounds)
1 cup red wine
6 apples, in chunks (i prefer red delicious)
salt and pepper
2 -3 bay leaves
Directions:
1. Saute chopped onion in oil until golden, Add cabbage, wine, half of the apple chunks, bay leaves, salt and pepper. Cook, covered, over low heat for 1 1/2 hours. Add remaining apples, cook for 15 to 20 minutes more, check seasoning and serve.
