This is an awesome cabbage dish. It goes great with everything. We like it with grilled bratwurst and iced tea. Yummy.
Ingredients:
1/2 pound bacon strips halved
1 large head red cabbage cored and shredded
2 large green apples cored and sliced
1 large white onion chopped
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup red wine
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
1. Cook bacon strips until crisp then remove and reserve. 2. Remove all but 4 tablespoons of the bacon fat from the pan and add the cabbage. 3. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. 4. Stir in the remaining ingredients and simmer covered for 1 hour. 5. Season with salt and pepper. 6. Just before serving sprinkle with reserved bacon.
