3 firm apples, peeled, cored and shredded |
3/4 cup water |
1/2 cup red wine |
3 tbsp cider vinegar |
2 tsp sugar |
1 tsp salt |
1/2 tsp nutmeg |
1/8 tsp pepper |
2 tbsp lemon juice |
Directions:
1. Melt butter or margarine in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion; cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Add cabbage and apples; cool 10 minutes, stirring 3 times. Add water, wine, vinegar, sugar salt, nutmeg and pepper. Cover and cook over low heat 30 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Before serving, stir lemon juice into cabbage mixture. If the cabbage is too dry, add a small amount of hot water. Serve hot. |
