One more from G-ma. I never got to ask her where she got this and if the Ranch Kitchen was a restaurant or not. A WARTIME RECIPE, when supplies were rationed. Economical bake, good for gift baskets for shut-ins or for new baby baskets. Ingredients:
2 cups of sifted a.p. flour |
1 tsp. salt |
1 tsp of baking soda |
1 cup chopped walnuts |
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed |
1 cup of sour cream |
1 egg |
Directions:
1. Sift four and salt onto waxed paper; add nuts and set aside. 2. Beat egg in mixing bowl, add brown sugar. 3. Stir soda into sour cream and add to egg mixture. 4. Stir in flour and nuts, mixing only until smooth. 5. Pour into greased 9x5x3 pan. 6. Let stand 20 minutes. 7. Meanwhile, heat oven to 350 degrees. 8. Bake bread one hour. 9. Cool thoroughly on a wire rack before slicing. 10. Yield 20 slices |
