A mock Baklava which is really very tasty and quite good. Nice recipe to have on hand when no filo dough is available Ingredients:
2 c. oil or 1 lb. butter (melted) |
1 tsp. cinnamon |
1 c. water |
1/2 tsp. salt |
1 lb. chopped walnuts |
flour as needed to make dough |
syrup |
juice from 1/2 lemon |
3 c. sugar |
1/2 c. honey |
3 c. water |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients together (not with the Syrup). 2. Add as much flour as it takes to make a soft dough. 3. Spread in large oblong buttered baking pan. 4. Before baking cut in squares or diamonds, but do not cut clear through the dough. 5. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 1 hour or until a knife when inserted comes out clean. 6. Pour syrup over it when still warm. 7. FOR SYRUP: Mix all together and boil to the softball stage on a candy thermometer. |
