Chai masala is available commercially at Indian stores and some specialty stores. It contains a ground combination of cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper and cloves. It is like the Indian spice blend garam masala, but without the cumin added. Chai may also be sold 'tea masala' or 'tea spice.' You can easily grind your own. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups water |
1/2 cup milk |
2 tablespoons sugar (to taste) |
1/2 teaspoon chai garam masala powder |
1 1/2 tablespoons black tea |
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients except black tea and heat over the stove. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Add tea and steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve immediately. |
