This rich buttery cake bakes up around apple slices placed into the batter. A topping of chopped almonds and cinnamon sugar finishes the cake so it is ready to serve warm right out of the oven. Make it extra special serve it with a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon- flavored ice cream. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter or margarine, room temperature |
1/2 cup sugar |
3 eggs |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 cup all-purpose flour 1 large apple, pared, cored and cut into 1/4 inch thick wedges |
1/4 cup sugar |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 cup coarsely chopped almonds |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375.F 2. Cream together butter and the 1/2 cup sugar. 3. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. 4. Stir in vanilla and flour, mixing well. 5. Spread evevly in a buttered 9-inch round cake pan. 6. Place apple wedges into batter to form a circular pattern. 7. Mix together 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over cake. 8. Sprinkle top with almonds. 9. Bake at 375.F for 40 minutes ro until a wooden pick iaserted in the center comes out clean. |
