RSC#9 calls for Grand Marnier or Cointreau. Those are a little steep on my budget so I needed a way to get a reasonable-sized supply of a decent substitute. This lacks the depth and nuance of the real stuff so I wouldn't use it in a recipe where it would be the main flavor, but in among half-a-dozen other ingredients it works.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup vodka or 1/2 cup rum
1 small orange
1/2 cup sugar
Directions:
1. Mix the juice and zest of the orange with the vodka and sugar in a clean jam jar or similar container.
2. Seal the lid tightly and shake until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Let sit in the fridge for several days to develop the flavor.
