Puttu is a culinary specialty in Kerala. It is also popular in certain areas of Sri Lanka . Very easy to make , it will make a great breakfast . Ingredients:
1 c rice powder ( flour ) mixed with pinch of salt |
150 ml water |
3 to 6 tbsp fresh coconut |
Directions:
1. Add only enough water to wet the flour by adding it slowly and rubbing with tip of your fingers . 2. The result should not have the consistency of dough , but rather a damp coarse mixture . 3. Boil some water in a double boiler . 4. Spread the moistened rice powder on a small heat proof plate . 5. Sprinkle 1 to 2 tbsp coconut on top and steam for 5 mins . 6. Serve with papad , cooked green gram and white sugar OR 7. Jaggery and banana slices OR 8. Fresh mango cubes and white coarse sugar OR 9. Chicken / Red meat curry . |
