                    This is the perfect way to start a Thanksgiving meal. Everyone wants this recipe! Ingredients: 
                    
                        
                                                4 slices bacon, diced  |  
                                                1/2 cup sweet onion, diced  |  
                                                1 teaspoon garlic, minced  |  
                                                1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree (unspiced)  |  
                                                4 cups chicken broth  |  
                                                1/4 teaspoon salt  |  
                                                1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper  |  
                                                1 cup heavy cream  |  
                                                1/2 cup (2 ounces) smoked gouda cheese, shredded  |  
                                                1 tablespoon flat-leaf parsley, minced  |  
                                                
                     
                    Directions: 
                    
                        
                            
                                1. In large saucepan, cook bacon over medium heat until fat is rendered. 2. Add onion and saute until onion is softened. 3. Add garlic and saute 1 minute. 4. Add pumpkin puree, broth, salt and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes. 5. Stir in heavy cream and heat through. 6. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese and parsley until smooth. 7. Ladle into bowls. 8. Top with a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg if desired.                              |
