This is a special cookie. I decided to whip up a batch in variation and the winner was with the added ingredient of 1 cup of raisins. As of today, I see daily as I walk into my kitchen a decorated jar with 3 of my winning cookies along with my Red Ribbon attached displayed since the year of 1991. You may use , raisins, chocolate chips, M & M candies or coconut instead of the walnuts if you wish. Ingredients:
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
2 cups rolled oats |
1/2 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 cup white sugar |
1 cup shortening |
2 eggs |
1/3 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 cup raisins |
Directions:
1. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. 2. Add oatmeal, brown sugar, white sugar, shortening, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Mix together. Stir in 1 cup of chopped walnuts. 3. Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes. |
