My grandma always made this for holidays. Its a good combo of sweet and salty. I've seen similar recipes but I think using the pineapple juice to make the jello makes all the difference. Ingredients:
3 cups broken pretzels |
1 (8 ounce) package whipped topping |
3/4 cup butter, melted |
2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries |
8 ounces cream cheese, softened |
1 (14 ounce) can crushed pineapple |
1 cup sugar |
1 (3 ounce) package strawberry jell-o gelatin dessert |
Directions:
1. Combine pretzels and butter. 2. Place in a 9 x 13-in pan. 3. Bake at 350F for 10 minutes. 4. Cool and set aside. 5. Cream the cheese and sugar; then fold in the whipped cream. 6. Spread over the pretzels and refrigerate for 1 hour. 7. Drain the strawberries and pineapples, saving the juices. 8. Measure juice and add enough water to make 2 cups liquid. 9. Boil and dissolve gelatin. 10. Chill until set; then add strawberries and pineapple. 11. Pour over chilled crust. 12. Refrigerate overnight before serving. |
