What could be better than potatoes, cheese and bread all in one bite. This makes 2 loaves. Ingredients:
1 cup milk |
2 tbsp. softened butter |
2 pkg. dry yeast |
1 1/2 cups warm water |
2 tbsp. sugar |
2 tbsp prepared yellow mustard |
1 1/2 tsp. salt |
1/4 cup instant mashed potato granules |
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese |
6 to 7 cups flour |
1 egg, slightly beaten |
sesame or poppy seeds |
Directions:
1. Heat milk and butter to scalding; cool to lukewarm. 2. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. 3. Add cooled milk, sugar, mustard and salt. 4. Stir in potato granules, cheese and enough flour to make a soft dough. 5. Knead on floured surface about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and satiny. 6. Place in greased bowl; cover and let rise in warm place until light and doubled in bulk, about 45 to 60 minutes. Punch down, divide in half and shape into 2 loaves. 7. Place in 2 well greased 9 x5 loaf pans. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. 8. Let rise again until doubled in size, 30 to 45 minutes. 9. Bake in a 375ºF oven, 45 to 50 minutes, until deep golden brown. |
