From the book Czech and Slovak Touches. Recipe from Cherryl Benesh Bartunek, Cedar Rapids, lowa Ingredients:
2 -3 medium onions |
1/4 cup lard or 1/4 cup shortening |
1 1/2 lbs fresh pork shoulder, cubed |
1/2 teaspoon caraway seed |
2 teaspoons paprika |
salt |
1 dash cayenne pepper |
2 cups water |
2 tablespoons flour |
Directions:
1. Saute onion in lard. 2. Add pork, caraway seed, paprika, salt and pepper, brown well. 3. Add 1/2 cup water and simmer in a covered pan until tender (approximately 1 hour.) 4. Sift the flour lightly over the meat juices and stir until brown. 5. Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups water and simmer 10-20 minutes. 6. Delicious with rice or dumplings. |
