My mother used to make these on Halloween for the trick-or-treaters (back when people didn't automatically throw out anything not factory-sealed) and the word would spread and kids would come to our house from all over to get them. She made some one year for a Christmas charity bazaar and they were such a hit, the next year they asked her to make a few more...and then more...until she was making 1,200 of them for a three-day bazaar, and they still sold out! Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
1/3 cup white corn syrup |
1/3 cup water |
1/4 cup butter |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
3/4 vanilla |
3 quarts popped corn |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, butter, and salt in a saucepan. 2. Cook over medium-high heat to hard ball stage. 3. Remove from heat and add vanilla. 4. Pour over popcorn. 5. When cool enough to handle, form into balls with buttered hands. |
