Hearty, delicious winter-perfect dinner that cost pennies and really goes the distrance. Combined two all-time favorites into one yummy comfort-food meal! Serve with salad and, for an extra-hearty meal, a side of pasta and garlic bread! Just .90 cents per serving. This came from Woman's World. I have not tried this, just posting for easy finding. Ingredients:
3 ounces crusty italian bread, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (2 cups) |
1/2 cup milk |
1 1/2 lbs ground beef |
15 1/2 ounces pizza sauce (1 1/2 cup) |
2 eggs |
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4oz) |
1 small onion, grated |
1 teaspoon dried italian seasoning |
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder |
chopped fresh parsley |
pasta (optional) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. Line jelly roll pan with foil; coat with cooking spray. In large bowl, toss bread with milk; let stand until milk is absorbed, 10 minutes. 2. To bread, add beef, 1 cup pizza sauce, eggs, 1/2 cup cheese, onion, seasoning and garlic powder. On jelly roll pan, shape mixture into a 10 1/2 x5 loaf. Bake until meat thermometer inserted into center registers 160, about 1 hour, brushing with 1/2 cup pizza sauce and sprinkling with remaining 1/2 cup cheese during last 15 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before slicing. If desired, sprinkle with parsley and serve with pasta as a side dish. |
