I found some great pitas and I'm looking at different recipes to try and posting here for safekeeping. Ingredients:
1 small onion, chopped |
1 garlic clove, minced |
1 teaspoon dried oregano |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon dried basil |
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed |
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef |
2 cups lettuce, shredded |
1 medium cucumber, seeded and chopped |
1 cup low-fat plain yogurt |
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted |
6 whole gyro-style pita bread (6 inches) |
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, combine the onion, garlic and seasonings; crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties. 2. Grill or broil for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. 3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the lettuce, cucumber, yogurt and sesame seeds. Top each burger with lettuce mixture; serve on pita breads. |
