A delicious southern dish! Ingredients:
1 (16 oz) package dried pinto beans, washed and sorted |
10 cups water, divided |
1 onion, chopped |
2 cloves, garlic, mashed |
1 ham hock |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper |
Directions:
1. In a Dutch oven, combine beans and 6 cups water. 2. Cover, and let stand 8 hours at room temperature. 3. Drain beans, and return to Dutch oven. 4. Add 4 cups water, onion, garlic, and ham hock to Dutch oven. 5. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered 2 1/2 hours, or until beans are tender. 6. Stir in salt and pepper. |
