These Apple pasties are great and very few ingredients, but you will have to make plenty as I discovered because they go fast and everybody wants more. I almost regret starting them as I get plenty of demand from my family for them. I found this in an old english country side cook book, and its so easy and a hit. Ingredients:
6 medium granny smith apples (green cooking apples ) |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
8 cloves |
2 tablespoons butter |
3 sheets ready rolled puff pastry |
1 egg white |
2 tablespoons sugar, for glazing |
Directions:
1. Peel and core Apples then chop into small pieces and place with butter in saucepan, add 1 and a half cups sugar then cloves. 2. Heat slowly and gently with lid on so the apples and sugar dont burn or brown. Stir regularly. 3. The apples should be just tender, then leave aside to cool and remove and discard cloves. 4. When apple mix is cool, preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius, cut sheets of pastry into quarters, place a portion of apple mix in middle and make into pastie shapes or triangles if your in a hurry like I do. 5. Place apple pasties onto sprayed baking tray. 6. Brush over with egg white and sprinkle with sugar. 7. Place in oven and cook until golden brown. 8. Serve warm with custard or ice cream, or there even great cold as a travelling snack or for picnics. |
