Long before smoothies swept our nation, Puerto Rico and Cuba were whipping up their own fruit shakes, known as batidos. Ingredients:
1/4 pineapple (labeled extra sweet ), peeled, cored, and cut into chunks (1 cup) |
3/4 cup ice cubes |
3/4 cup fresh orange juice |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1/2 cup whole milk |
garnish: pineapple wedges and orange slices |
Directions:
1. Blend pineapple, ice, orange juice, sugar, and a pinch of salt in a blender until smooth. Add milk and blend until frothy. Serve immediately. |
