Found this after a local farm market started selling them. Only 1 crust. Unique baking method and a delicious, homey, fall pie. Ingredients:
2 1/2 lbs. cooking apples |
1/2 c. sugar |
2 tblsp. flour |
1/2 tsp. cinnamon |
1 unbaked 9 pie shell |
2 tblsp lemon juice |
topping |
1/2 c. sugar |
1/2 c. flour |
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter or margarine |
Directions:
1. Peel apples, cut in fourths, trim out core, cut each piece in thirds. 2. Place in bowl. 3. Mix sugar flour and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples, toss to coat. 4. Spoon into pie shell 5. Drizzle with lemon juice. 6. Make topping below 7. Combine sugar flour, cut in butter. 8. Sprinkle topping over filling. 9. Slide pie into clean unused heavy brown paper bag (use a good sized heavy grocery bag) 10. Fold over end two times, clip with a paper clip. 11. Place on cookie sheet 12. Bake at 425 degrees for 1 hour 13. Split bag open (be careful of the steam) 14. Cool Serve |
