I m not even sure how to pronounce this recipe, but I can tell you one thing, these cookies are so tasty - This spice cookie , traditionally prepared for Christmas, features black pepper. Pfeffernuesse is the German word for peppernuts . The black pepper enhances the spice tasts without adding heat, Simply Delicious!!
Ingredients:
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
1/2 teaspoon pure anise extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
2 3/4 cups flour
confectioners' sugar
Directions:
1. Beat brown sugar and butter with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
2. Beat in eggs and extracts.
3. Add remaining ingredients, except confectioners sugar, to flour and sift. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well, Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
4. Peheat oven to 375°F Shape teaspoonfuls of dough into ovals and place 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
5. Bake 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; sprinkle confectioners sugar over warm cookies.
6. When cookies are cool, store in airtight containers.
