This recipe never fails to produce a flakey crust for pies, pasties, tarts whatever......I even make ahead and freeze until needed. Ingredients:
4 cups unsifted flour spooned into a cup |
1 tbl sugar |
2 tsp salt |
1 large egg |
1/ 3/4 cups crisco |
1 tbl cider or white vinegar |
Directions:
1. Mix flour, sugar and salt together. Add shortening. In a small bowl beat together with fork 1/2 cup water, venigar and egg. Combine the two mixtures. Divide 5 portions into patties, wrap in plastic and chill at least 1/2 hour before using (if you don't its too sticky to handle) Refrigerate up to 3 days or freeze up to 3 months.........Old Tennessee recipe |
