Makes about 1 1/4 pounds. Solvang has a candy store where one can find just about everything. Barrels and Barrels of different taffies. I load up on the licorice along with the citrus and honey types. With all the pull associated with this candy making process, has to wait until I can quiet, private, and alone time to pursue this adventure. Ingredients:
*time varies from one stove top to another - best to gauge with the candy thermometer as it yields best results. |
2 cups light corn syrup |
1 tablespoon butter or margarine |
1 tablespoon vinegar |
peppermint extract |
Directions:
1. Put all ingredients except flavoring in large heavy saucepan. 2. Bring to boil, and cook until a small amount of mixture forms a hard ball when dropped in very cold water (254 degrees F. on a candy thermometer). 3. Pour onto a large buttered platter. 4. As edges cool, turn mixture toward center with a spatula. When just cool enough to handle make a hollow in center of taffy and add a few drops of flavoring. 5. Gather up taffy and pull until light, using a little butter to grease hands while pulling. twist into a long rope and cut into pieces with scissors.
