This is a delicious compote to serve as a side dish with any meal. Ingredients:
3-4 golden delicious of royal gala apples, peeled, cored and quartered |
3-4 ripe anjou, bartlet, bosc or comice pears , peeled, cored and quartered |
1/4 cup water |
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice |
1 tsp. cinnamon |
1/2 cup sugar, or to your personal taste |
1 tablespoon calvados (optional) |
*calvados is an apple brandy. |
Directions:
1. Place all ingredients in a heavy saucepan. 2. Cover and cook over medium-low heat until fruit is soft and starts to break down, 15 minutes. 3. Uncover and cook over medium-high heat until mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. 4. Purée in a food processor, blender or food mill. 5. Serve warm or at room temperature. 6. Makes approximately 3 cups |
