I came up with these fudgy peanut butter brownies when I ran out of ingredients I needed for my usual recipe, relates Marcella Cremer of Decatur, Illinois. They take less than 10 minutes to mix up. Ingredients:
1 package (17-1/2 ounces) peanut butter cookie mix |
1/2 cup baking cocoa |
2/3 cup chocolate syrup |
1/4 cup butter, melted |
1 egg |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or peanuts |
frosting: |
2 cups plus 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar |
1/4 cup baking cocoa |
1/2 cup chocolate syrup |
1/4 cup butter, melted |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine cookie mix and cocoa. Beat in chocolate syrup, butter and egg until combined. Stir in nuts. 2. Spread into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. 3. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine frosting ingredients until smooth. Spread over brownies. Cut into squares. Yield: 2 dozen. |
