This is my pea soup recipe. I like it because of all the carrots and ham. It's really good on a cold night. Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) package dried split peas |
12 cups water |
2 chicken bouillon cubes |
1 chopped onion |
1 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon oregano |
1/2-1 teaspoon pepper |
1 lb ham shank |
1 bay leaf |
1 1/2 cups carrots (chopped) |
1 cup celery (chopped) |
Directions:
1. wash and sort peas. 2. Put peas, boullon cubes, onion garlic oregano, ham and bay leaf to boil. 3. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1-1/2 hrs. 4. Give a stir every now and then. 5. Remove ham from soup and remove all the meat from the bone. 6. Cut meat into bite size pieces and return it back to the soup. 7. Add carrots and celery. 8. Cook 1-1/2 to 2 Hrs more till you get desired thickness. |
