The Pavlova dessert was first created in 1935 in honor of the ballerina Anna Pavlova, a Russian ballerina, the most celebrated dancer of her time. The chef of the Hotel Esplanade in Perth, Western Australia, Herbert Sachse created the Pavlova to celebrate the visit of the Great Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova. Read more . This is a very popular dessert in Australia and is just a puffy cloud of deliciousness! Ingredients:
4 egg whites |
1 1/8 cups white sugar |
1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 tablespoon cornstarch |
1 cup heavy cream |
2 cups strawberries sliced and sprinkled with sugar. |
(any other berries will do.) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F 2. Beat egg whites and sugar in a large, clean bowl with electric mixer until stiff peaks form. 3. In separate bowl, mix together vinegar, vanilla and cornstarch until smooth. 4. our cornstarch mixture into egg white mixture and beat until thick and glossy about 4 minutes. 5. Cover a baking sheet in parchment paper and draw an 8 inch circle in the center. 6. Spoon or pipe mixture inside the circle, to within a little less than an inch (2 centimeters) from the edge. 7. Place in preheated oven, reduce temperature to 200 degrees F , and bake 1 hour. 8. Turn oven off and leave Pavlova to cool inside. 9. Lightly whip cream. Decorate cooled Pavlova with whipped cream and berries. 10. Serve immediately. |
