Good with any meal. Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
3 teaspoon double-acting baking powder |
4 to 6 tablespoon chilled butter cubes |
3/4 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. 2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt, and baking powder. 3. Add 4 to 6 tablespoons chilled butter or shortening or combination of both. 4. Cut into dry ingredients, then make a well in the center, and add 3/4 cup milk all at once. 5. Stir until dough is free from the sides and turn onto a lightly floured surface. 6. Knead gently and quickly, folding only 8 to 10 times. 7. Roll with a lightly floured rolling pin, until the dough is about 1/2-inch thick. 8. Cut into 1/2 by 1/2 by 3-inch sticks. 9. Brush with melted butter and bake for 5 to 8 minutes, or until just slightly golden. 10. Stack the sticks like building a log cabin. |
