Pasquale's Italian Tomato Sauce |

This is a great basic tomato sauce that is excellent in many Italian recipes. Depending on what and who you are serving this to you can add hot pepper flakes to taste. Ingredients:
4 ounces olive oil |
1 onion (large chopped) |
4 garlic cloves |
1 tablespoon dried basil |
1 tablespoon nutmeg |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
4 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes |
10 ounces tomato paste |
6 ounces red wine |
3 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in a large pot and cook onion, garlic and seasonings for 5 minutes. 2. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, wine and butter. 3. Simmer for 30 minutes till sauce is fairly thick, and once the golden oil floats on top you know it is done. |
