This bread is great for get-togethers because you can put it together ahead of time and throw it in the oven a half hour before dinner. It's so good that I usually have to double the recipe because it gets eaten so fast. I got this recipe from a Family Circle magazine about 20 years ago. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened |
3 green onions, chopped |
3 tablespoons grated romano cheese or 3 tablespoons parmesan cheese |
fresh ground pepper, to taste |
8 ounces french bread, split lengthwise (16 in.) |
Directions:
1. Mix well all ingredients except bread. 2. Spread on cut surfaces of bread. 3. Place halves together and wrap in foil. 4. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes. 5. Open foil, separate halves and lay, cut side up, on a cookie sheet or pan. 6. Bake 7 minutes longer, or til bubbly and lightly browned around the edges. 7. Cut into pieces (I use kitchen scissors). |
