From the Omni Parker House in Boston, this recipe has been adapted to fit your bread machine. These are a family favorite on all holidays Ingredients:
3 cups bread flour or all purpose flour |
1/4 cups white sugar |
1 teaspoon. salt |
1 (1/4 oz. pkg) active dry yeast |
1/2 cup butter, softened |
*do not use margarine |
1 large egg, (whisked) |
3/4 cup water (120*f) |
2 tablespoons water (120*f) |
Directions:
1. Directions: Add water, 1/4 cup butter, egg, salt, flour, sugar, and yeast to bread machine pan in order suggested by manufacturer. 2. Select dough/manual cycle 3. Meanwhile, put 1/4 cup of remaining butter in baking pan (13x9) 4. Melt butter over low heat 5. Tilt pan to grease bottom. 6. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine to lightly floured surface. 7. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick. 8. With floured 2 3/4 inch round cutter, cut dough into circles. 9. Holding dough circle by edge, dip both sides into melted butter in pan: folding dough in half, using knife in center to create the crease. 10. Arrange folded dough in rows in pan, each nearly touching the other. 11. Knead trimmings together; re-roll dough and cut more rolls 12. Cover and let rise in a warm, draft free place, about 45 minutes or until doubled. 13. Bake in Preheated 400*F oven, 15-18 minutes or until done. 14. Remove pan and let cool on wire rack. 15. Brush rolls with additional melted butter. 16. Makes approx. 12-18 rolls. Each approx 154 calories 17. Note: Do Not use margarine since most contain too much water. I used margarine once and it flattened the rolls. 18. These rolls can be made ahead and frozen. Bake till rolls are blond and not browned. The rolls will sound hollow but will be blond. 19. # Bake at 400° for 5-10 minutes or just until they begin to brown, keeping an eye on them not to allow browning. 20. # Remove from oven and cool in pans for a few minutes. 21. # Remove to racks to cool completely, then place on a tray and put in freezer until firm. 22. # Place in plastic freezer bags and freeze. 23. # To complete cooking, place as many frozen rolls as you need on cookie sheet, and bake at 400° until golden brown, about 6 or 7 minutes. |
