This is a recipe that was in my Great Grandmothers recipe box (a metal bread box). It appears it was given to her by someone but I don't know who gave it to her. It is a wonderful cookie recipe. Ingredients:
1 tbsp coarsely grated orange rind |
1/2 cup water |
1/4 cup sugar |
1/2 cup butter |
1 cup sugar |
1 tbsp sherry flavoring (i used sherry) |
1 1/4 cups flour |
1 tbsp baking powder |
1/2 tsp salt |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 375F 2. Blend orange rind, water and 1/4 cup sugar in saucepan, boil gently over medium heat 10-15 minutes until mixture is thin syrup. 3. Cream butter, 1 cup sugar and sherry until fluffy. 4. Sift together dry ingredients. 5. Stir syrup then dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly. 6. Roll into 1 balls. Place 2 apart on lightly greased baking sheet. 7. Flatten with bottom of greased glass dipped in sugar. 8. Bake about 8 minutes. 9. Makes 4 1/2 dozen cookies |
