parathas originated in the north of India, where wheat is a staple. Ingredients:
1 2/3 cups wholewheat flour,sifted |
1/2 tsp salt |
1 tbsp veg. oil |
6 tbsp ghee or butter,melted |
extra flour for dusting |
Directions:
1. put the flour,salt and 2/3 cup water in a bowl and knead to a soft dough.mix in the oil and set aside,covered,for 30 mins. 2. divide the dough into 6 equal parts and shape into round balls. flatten and roll out into flat discs about 5 inches in diameter 3. smear a little ghee onto the top of the paratha,then fold it over into a semicircle.smear more ghee over the upper surface and fold it again to form a triangle shape. 4. placeit on a floured board and roll into a thin triangle,making sure the edges are not too thick. 5. place on a hot griddle.cook for 1 min , then turn over. when the paratha begins to colour,brush a little ghee on one side,turn over and cook again. brush a little ghee on this side also. 6. cook for a few more seconds until the paratha is golden brown on both sides. |
