Ingredients:
4 cups self-rising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
Directions:
1. Combine flour and baking soda; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until crumbly. Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times.
3. Pat or roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch round cutter, and place on lightly greased baking sheets.
4. Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes.
