This is a quick side that can serve as a main course meal too! I always make this dish around St. Patrick's Day because it is a great way to use all that cabbage that is caught at the parades! I used to ride on a float and was asked to make this after the ride for all the riders. Read more . It was such a hit! Ingredients:
1 head cabbage(cut into slices) |
1 large onion,sliced |
1 cup celery, chopped |
1 cup sliced smoked sausage(you can also use bacon or ham if you prefer!) |
6 tablespoons butter |
3 tablespoons(more if needed) olive oil(you could sub vegetable oil) |
1/4 cup soy sauce |
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper |
salt to taste |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in large skillet. Add sausage(or other meat), onions, and celery and cook until sausage is lightly browned. 2. Add cabbage and stir well. 3. Continue cooking on med/high heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking. 4. Add butter, sour sauce, and black pepper, cover, lower heat to low/med. 5. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes. 6. Taste, add salt if needed. |
