Old family recipe. We all love them!! Ingredients:
1 quart of milk |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
1/2 tsp. salt |
1 oz. whiskey |
10 egg yolks |
2 eggs |
1 baker's yeast (large ) |
1/2 lb. softened butter |
11 cups flour |
grated rind and juice of 2 oranges |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients like a bread mixture. Let rise for 1 hour. 2. Punch or knead, then roll into balls. 3. Fill each ball with prunes or jelly, securing edges to prevent filling from leaking out. 4. Place on floured board and let rise again. 5. ( the donuts can also be made without filling) 6. Fry in medium hot oil about 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. 7. Romove from oil, using a slotted spoon to drain excess oil and place on paper towels. You can roll in powder sugar if desired. |
