Overnight Sausage Omelette Strata |

This is easy to prepare if you have guests for breakfast or brunch Ingredients:
1 pound pork breakfast sausage (or your favourite type) |
6 slices white bread, crusts removed |
1 cup grated cheddar or emmental cheese or combination thereof |
4 eggs |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder |
2 cups milk |
Directions:
1. Broil sausage for 20 minutes, drain and cut into bite sized pieces. Alternatively, pop them out of their skins, crumble and fry. 2. Cut bread into 1/2 cubes. 3. Lightly butter a 12×8 casserole dish. 4. Layer bread, then sausage, then cheese into dish, making three layers in total. 5. Blend together eggs with salt, mustard powder and milk and pour over layered ingredients. Cover and refrigerate overnight. 6. In the morning, remove casserole from fridge about 45 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350F and bake, uncovered, about 90 minutes. 7. Serve immediately. |
