This recipe is courtesy of Alton Brown. Steel-cut oats are also known as Irish oats, Scotch oats, pinhead oats, coarse-cut oats or porridge oats. Here in Florida, I can purchase McCann's Steel Cut Oats in my regular grocery store. Ingredients:
1 cup steel cut oats |
1 cup dried cranberries |
1 cup dried fig |
4 cups water |
1/2 cup half-and-half |
Directions:
1. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning. 2. In a crock-pot, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours. 3. Stir and remove to serving bowls. |
