Overnight Apple French Toast |

Be sure to use an apple that will hold its shape after baking. Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar, packed |
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine |
2 tablespoons light corn syrup |
2 large tart apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick |
3 eggs |
1 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
9 slices day-old french bread (3/4 inch thick) |
1 cup applesauce |
1 (10 ounce) jar apple jelly |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves |
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, cook brown sugar, butter and corn syrup until thick, about 5-7 minutes. 2. Pour into an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan; arrange apples on top. 3. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla. 4. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture for 1 minute; place over apples. 5. Cover and refrigerate overnight. 6. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. 7. Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 35-40 minutes. 8. For syrup combine last 4 ingredients in a medium saucepan; cook and stir until hot. 9. Serve over French toast. |
