Applesauce is a staple in our house. Once you've had this easy homemade sauce, you'll snub the store-bought & sweetened stuff forever. Ingredients:
8-10 organic apples (if using granny smiths, add a red delicious for every 4 grannies) |
1-2 c. filtered water |
Directions:
1. Peel and slice apples (about 8 slices per apple). 2. Place in large pot with water (not enough to cover). 3. Boil until just softened. 4. Place apples and a very small amount of the water into food processor or blender. Blend about 30 seconds. (Do not puree unless you're making it for a baby.) 5. Store in airtight container in the fridge. (If storing in glass, bring down to room temperature before refrigerating.) 6. Makes 1 to 1 1/2 quarts. 7. Note, once blended, you can stir in a teaspoon of cinnamon if you like. We prefer it without. |
