This is a slight twist on the traditional French toast recipe, giving it a fresh brightness suitable to winter or spring. I've made it for myself now twice in three days and it is just scrumptuous. Ingredients:
6-8 slices bread |
1 egg |
3/4 c. milk |
dash of ginger or cardamom |
dash of clove |
liberal cinnamon |
1/8 tsp. orange extract |
1 tbsp. butter |
Directions:
1. In a bowl big enough to sop your bread slices in, mix all of the ingredients with a fork or spoon until egg is incorporated. 2. Over medium to medium-high heat, melt butter in a frying pan (or use a griddle if you have one). 3. Dip the bread into the egg mixture coating both sides before placing in the pan. Cook each side golden brown and serve with warm maple syrup. 4. Suggestions: you can use orange zest if you don't have the extract, it works just as well. |
