Ingredients:
2 packages dry yeast |
1/3 cup sugar, divided |
1 cup warm milk (105° to 115°) |
3 eggs, beaten |
1/4 cup shortening, melted |
1 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons grated orange rind |
4 cups all-purpose flour |
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar, divided |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm milk; stir well, and let stand 5 minutes or until bubbly. 2. Combine remaining sugar, eggs, shortening, salt, orange rind, and yeast mixture, stirring well. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead 8 minutes or until smooth and elastic. 3. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place (85°), free from drafts, 1 hour or until doubled in bulk. 4. Punch dough down, and let rest 5 minutes. Lightly grease muffin pans, and place 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar in bottom of each muffin cup. Shape dough into 2-inch balls; place 1 ball in each muffin cup. Cover and repeat rising procedure 1 hour or until doubled in bulk. 5. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes or until golden brown. |
