Time does not include rising or chill. Yield is a guess. A half square of butter is the same as 1/2 stick or 1/4 cup. Ingredients:
2 compressed yeast cakes |
1/2 cup warm water |
1/2 cup sugar |
2 teaspoons salt |
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine |
3 eggs |
1 cup water |
4 1/2 cups flour |
1 grated orange rind or 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 sq. butter |
1/2 cup sugar |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. 2. Melt sugar, salt, and butter or margarine in mixing bowl. 3. Let above mixture cool until luke warm, then add eggs. 4. Beat until foamy. 5. Add water. 6. Mix in flour. 7. Mix with spoon until WELL MIXED. Let rise until double in bulk. 8. Stir down and put in refrigerator until thoroughly chilled (over night or longer.) Keep close watch while in refrigerator so it will not run over. 9. Roll dough approximately 1/2 thick. Spread with orange mixture made from remaining ingredients. 10. Roll dough up like jelly roll. Cut off 1/2 pieces and put in greased muffin tins. 11. Let rise until double in bulk and bake about 10 minutes at 400. |
