Fun nibble with drinks when the cayenne is added. Grandma used these sans pepper to sprinkle over homemade vanilla ice cream or orange sherbert. Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar |
juice of two oranges |
grated rind of one orange |
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (more if you dare) |
or substitute a chipotle powder for a smokier kick |
generous pinch of salt |
1 lb. of shelled pecan halves |
Directions:
1. Mix sugar, juice and rind in a saucepan. 2. Bring to a boil. 3. Reduce heat. 4. cook slowly 15 minutes. 5. Remove from heat, stir in pepper, salt and pecans. 6. Stir. 7. When well coated, drop from tip of spoon onto greased cookie sheet 8. or wax paper. 9. Cool. 10. Store in airtight container. |
